Greetings and welcome to our second round of online discussions of The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken. In this post, we’ll be covering content that happens from chapter 11 to 21.
Ruby and the others have just survived a close call from attacking PSFs, with Ruby and Zu coming to the rescue using their respective powers. I wanted to shake Ruby after reading this part – so much self hatred going on even though she saved the group! But at the same time that I wanted to throttle her, I wanted to hug her (a throttlehug if you will) because, let’s be real, this is a totally relatable feeling to be down on yourself sometimes.
As I continued to read, my frustration at Ruby lessened as I understood Ruby’s feelings: if you erase your parents’ memories, that’s a legit reason to be down on yourself.
More adventures on the road follow and eventually lead to the much awaited Slip Kid. Were you surprised it was Clancy Gray? Do you agree with Gray’s choice to have everyone at East River wear black and use the Psi symbol?
